Preparation Steps


1. Cook the Dhal and Chow Chow:


Wash the toor dhal thoroughly and pressure cook it with turmeric powder and 1.5 cups of water until soft (3-4 whistles).


In a separate pot, cook the chopped Chow Chow with a pinch of salt and water until tender. Set aside.



2. Prepare the Tempering:


Heat coconut oil in a pan.


Add mustard seeds and let them splutter.


Add cumin seeds, curry leaves, and dry red chilies, sautéing for a few seconds until aromatic.



3. Combine and Season:


To the cooked dhal, add the tender Chow Chow pieces.


Mix in tamarind extract, green chilies, garlic, and sambar powder. Let the mixture simmer for 5-7 minutes.


Adjust the consistency by adding water if necessary.
